We can all feel a bit down at times but when it lasts too long, or goes beyond this, into feeling intensely sad, or you have a sense of hopelessness then talking to a psychologist might help.
You might find it hard to keep up with your normal routine and you notice that things are starting to fall behind. You might find that you don’t care or you feel guilty about not performing as you normally would.
Sometimes it’s pretty clear why we’re feeling depressed or down but other times we can’t place how we went from feeling good about things to feeling low and hopeless about the future.
I can try to help you sort out the noise, alleviate your symptoms of depression, address any concerns and put in place useful skills and coping strategies aimed to maintain good emotional health.
Symptoms and signs of depression:
- Feeling unmotivated, lacking energy
- Crying or feeling sad
- Suicidal thoughts
- Not enjoying things as much as you used to
- Not feeling good about the future
- Feeling irritable, tired
- Not feeling good about yourself
- Change in sleeping or eating habits
- Using alcohol, drugs, sex or porn to numb feelings
Depression, anxiety and stress often co-exist with some experts suggesting that they’re part of the same problem.
